Q 1 |
What is the roll of the
KNS, ARHP, and ARCP? Can you use the KNS even though I do not know
about a PC and Internet well? |
Do you have any friend who
has plenty of knowledge about PC and Internet, so that your friend
can help you to configure your environment to start? Users who have
extensive knowledge about a PC and Internet may be easy to start the
KNS. |
Q 2 |
Are there specification
requirements for a PC to use the KNS? |
The user can make command
communication with Windows®98/ME/2000/XP. Windows®2000/XP or higher
OS is required to use voice communication with VoIP. Refer to the
help manual. The user must disable the ICF function (firewall
function) when using Windows®XP since the function may be enabled
when installing the service pack. |
Q 3 |
What is the recommended
environment for a PC? |
The recommended
environment (CPU, memory, hard disk) in each OS is required. Refer
to Q.2. |
Q 4 |
Can I use the KNS with
analog dial-up connection? |
The KNS will work when the
connection speed is faster than 50 kbps. However, we recommend the
user to use broadband Internet connection since noises may be added
on the audio signals and the voice can be suddenly interrupted when
connecting to Internet with the analog dial-up
connection. |
Q 5 |
Does the KNS support
broadband Internet connection? |
The user must be able to
use the KNS when he/she has already obtained a global IP and his/her
ISP has opened the port for VoIP and the port for command
communication. |
Q 6 |
I how do know that the given IP
is global IP or private IP? |
The user can check it with "Kakuninnkun" in the
Japanese web site: http://www.ugtop.com/ The user
can also check the IP type with the status of a router when using
the router. |
Q 7 |
I want to use the KNS
through Internet though, I have only private IP. |
The user must have a
global IP to use the KNS. |
Q 8 |
I am using a router.
Can I use the KNS? |
Although the KNS does not
support the network environment with a router, it may work if a
router has a function called "DMZ", "Virtual computer" "IP
masquerading", "NAT". Configure the above-mentioned functions by
referring to the router's manual and at user's
responsibility. Generally, the user can use the KNS when using a
router in conformity with the Microsoft® NetMeeting®. The KNS may
not work in a network environment with a router when the OS is
Windows®XP due to a router's configuration. The user must disable
the firewall of the OS when using Windows®XP. |
Q 9 |
Why do I have to use
Windows®2000/XP to make voice communications? |
Telephony API is not
implemented in other OSs. |
Q 1 0 |
I wan to know why the
Windows®95 is not supported by KENWOOD. |
Windows®95 does not
support the command control through network. (Unofficial
information: the KNS may work when upgrading Windows® Socket Service
(this operation is not supported.) |
Q 1 1 |
What type of sound card
can I use? |
The KNS works with
Creative Lab Sound Blaster16 or higher product. The KNS may work
with compatible sound cards, the sound card with similar
performance, and onboard sound card (compliant with AC97), but the
performance tests are not made on these cards. The user must
confirm that he/she is using the latest sound card driver when KNS
does not work. We did not make the performance tests for the USB
type sound card. |
Q 1 2 |
Can I use the KNS with
the current radio station license? (Japan only) |
The user cannot use the
KNS with the current amateur radio station license. The user can use
the KNS after submitting the license update application and
obtaining a new license on or after 14 January, 2004.Refer to our
web page or ask the JARL for details. |
Q 1 3 |
I do not have an
amateur radio station license. Can I use the KNS? |
The user without license
cannot use the KNS. |
Q 1 4 |
My PC does not have a serial
port. Can I use the KNS? |
The user must use a PC with a serial
port. The KNS may work by using USB-serial conversion. We did not
make the performance tests on the PC without a serial
port. |
Q 1 5 |
What do I need to prepare for
using the KNS? |
The transmission party must prepare the audio
input/output cable connecting a sound card to a transceiver. The
user must prepare the cable by himself/herself. Refer to the ARHP
help for reading how to prepare the cable. |
Q 1 6 |
I am going to buy a new router.
What router do you recommend? |
The user can use a router having the functions
described in Q.6. However, some routers do not support the required
functions. We can recommend a router being compliant with the
Microsoft® NetMeeting® and H.323 since he/she can use the KNS in a
environment with a router by performing certain setting on the
router. Voice communication may not be possible when using a router
in the Windows®XP. |
Q 1 7 |
I am using a firewall software.
Can I use the KNS? |
The KNS may work depending on the firewall
software. We did not make the performance tests for the environment
with the firewall software. |
Q 1 8 |
A high-speed modem is directly
connected to the PC having Windows®XP. Can I use KNS? |
The user must disable the personal firewall of
the Windows®XP if it is enabled. However, you must recognize that
the security becomes fragile if the firewall is
disabled. |
Q 1 9 |
Can I use wireless LAN for using
the KNS? |
It depends on the user's environment. We did
not make the performance tests for the environment with wireless
LAN. |
Q 2 0 |
A high-speed modem is directly
connected to a PC and the router is built-in in the modem. Can I use
the KNS? |
- The user must use a modem without a built-in
router.
- Open the port required for using the KNS.
Open the port 1720 for command communication and H.323 (when using
a router in conformity with the NetMeeting).
- If the "DMZ" and "Virtual Computer" functions
are available in a router, you must configure the PC to be used in
hte KNS.
- Bridge the router having a built-in
modem.
If so bridged, the IP address may not be able to be
available depending on the ISP. In this case, the user must obtain
the IP address with the router being compliant with NetMeeting or
PPPo* client. (PPPo* client function is a standard function of
the Windows®XP.) However, the security becomes fragile after
bridging a router. The user must
configure a router with self-responsibility. |
Q 2 1 |
I am using Internet service for
multiple dwelling houses and I cannot use the KNS through
Internet. |
The ports required for using the KNS may be
shut down. We recommend the user to consult with those who
meintain the multiple dwelling houses, such as the management
association of its building, and ask them to open the ports required
for using the
KNS. |
